PRAY FOR OUR PASTOR

EMPOWER HIM THROUGH PRAYER

“Therefore, I exhort the elders among you, as your fellow elder and witness of the sufferings of Christ, and a partaker also of the glory that is to be revealed, shepherd the flock of God among you, exercising oversight not under compulsion, but voluntarily, according to the will of God; and not for sordid gain, but with eagerness; nor yet as lording it over those allotted to your charge but proving to be examples to the flock. And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the unfading crown of glory.” 1 Peter 5:1-4 [NASB]

This passage is one of exhortation to pastors, laying out for them responsibilities, manners of fulfilling them and some absolutely amazing rewards. Let’s mine it for prayer focuses for Pastor Ty; he has responsibility to shepherd us, but as his flock we need to be upholding him.

Some prayer suggestions for our pastor (and elders):

  • that Ty would have a clear sense of God’s will in directing and shepherding this flock

  • that Ty would continue on with eagerness; truthfully I think Ty is one of the most “eager” pastors that I’ve met - and here it is, the mandate for eagerness

  • that Ty would continue as an example to the flock; that the Holy Spirit would uphold him in his daily walk before us.

  • wisdom in exercising oversight - knowing when to exhort, when to confront, when to come along side of in encouragement.

I find it interesting that Paul frequently tells his letter recipients exactly what he is praying for them. I’d encourage you to do the same for Ty; maybe direct message him in the GroupMe app, maybe leave a comment here (I’ve turned them on for this post, I think), or telling him in person or email.
